This place is UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I must first start out by saying that I am an extremely fussy eater. So imagine my joy when I found the most PERFECT Breakfast/Brunch place EVER!! I have tried a lot- and I do mean A LOT of their Menu. I have yet to eat ANYTHING that I did not love. I'm sooo not exaggerating. My go to FAVORITE is the Captain Crunch French Toast with Peanut Butter & Banana with their super special COCONUT Syrup!! The staff is unbelievably friendly, prompt, precise, and considerate of any needs their Customers may have. I can honestly say that I can not get enough of this place. You owe it to yourself to give this place a try- ASAP!! It's the BEST!!

My first experience with Stacks (Dana Point) was yesterday (9/26/15). I wasn't disappointed but I was not as favorably impressed and many who have heaped praise on this dinky little eatery. Here's what you may want to know. 1. Ambiance, cleanliness, appeal - Roughly a notch down from a Micky D's or Carls Jr. I got food to go at 1pm midweek and there was parking on PCH and the restaurant, which only seats 26 inside, was so noisy the girl across the counter from me had trouble hearing me. The result was my omelet was missing Jack cheese. There is dining al fresca available but if you're not there at just the right time of day, the sun will bake you while you breathe exhaust from the traffic on PCH. 2. Service - Okay...friendly, polite, etc. They do have "take out" and "doggie bags" but you'll likely find that you won't be able to place your order by phone. I called about 4 times and twice I got an answering machine with an outgoing message only and twice I got nothing after 20 rings. They also serve the entire menu from opening to closing so there are no worries about breakfast not being served during lunch, etc. 3. Quality - The food quality, from my one experience, was roughly equivalent to a Denny's. Good but not great. My omelet was not light and fluffy but tasty none-the-less. And my wife very much enjoyed her French Toast. We'll doubtless dine again at Stacks. The mass appeal seems to be the diverse and unique nature of their offering and their very reasonable prices. Captain Crunch, Nutella, Coconut syrup, Macadamia nut, etc. Yummy stuff not found elsewhere on a single menu in South OC.

Decided to give Stacks Pancake House a try when I was staying at my boyfriend's house. I ordered a short stack of their Mac'Nut Banana pancakes. And upon recommendation, put their coconut syrup on it. OH. MY. GOODNESS. Hands down some of the best pancakes I've ever had in my life ... And I love pancakes. I also ordered an almond milk chai tea latte that was phenomenal on the cloudy, overcast Dana Point morning I came into Stacks. Great experience, clean tables, and the friendliest service. Happy to add this place to my morning breakfast go-to spots.

Their Blueberry pancakes are pretty great! So my wife and I visit Stack's every once in a while after church on Sundays. Yes, it's busy and the line looks daunting. But to be honest they do a pretty good job of getting people in and out. They don't allow you to show up and grab a table, as this causes issues for people in front of you in line. Just get in line and as you get closer to the front they'll give you a number and place that number on the table. So no worries about getting a table. Ambiance and Location (Rating 3) I like the outside patio area but with the huge line and people hanging around, it's never really comfortable. The inside is decent but it's only big enough to handle about 1/3 of the customers. The location over all is pretty good and theirs a few other choices close by. Blue Berry Pancakes (Rating 4) Their blueberry pancakes don't stack up (pun intended) against Cracker Barrel. They are not quite as crispy and Cracker Barrel uses an amazing "Dickensons" blueberry syrup that's thick. (I haven't found it in the stores). But this review is about Stacks.. They do a really good job and come close on the pancakes themselves, but they only have "decent" syrup, and or a raspberry syrup (which I prefer). Neither are great. I do get these quite a bit however and my negativity probably stems from not having a Cracker Barrel within 200 miles of us. Portuguese Sausage Omelette (Rating 4) This is not on the menu. You have to do the "Create Your Own Omelette" offering. It's easy though. I order it with cheese, onions, mushrooms, Portuguese sausage and a side of sour cream. The Portuguese sausage makes the omelette as it's a taste you probably haven't had previously. I haven't found many places offering it and it is very good. It's not spicy, and not overly salty, but it has a mild very novel flavor that bolsters the omelettes taste a great deal. Give it a shot, you'll like it.

Nothing like a good omelette with a side of delicious pancakes. This cozy breakfast joint is always packed with people but keeps the line moving quickly. Your food shows up within five minutes of ordering which is always a bonus. I decided to create my own omelette because I love a nice combo of meats and veggies. I stuffed it with spinach, tomatoes, jalapeños, bacon, ham, and Portuguese Sausage Link. They gave me ample amounts of each ingredient and it turned out great. I also ordered the Banana Pancakes on the side. Not as much banana as I was hoping for but still very good. Also, I stole a bite of the Oreo Pancakes. Wow. This dessert for breakfast is hard to resist. If you're craving some sugar you have to order this. But if not, almost everything on the menu looks good. This is one of the best pancake houses I've been too. Definitely coming back when I'm in the area.

Great place to go for breakfast or brunch! They're know for their pancakes...and yes, they were super yum! I also got the spam and eggs-also good. I would recommend coming here in the morning before hitting the beach scene.

Finally! I made it to the ORIGINAL, Stacks Pancake House location in Dana Point... It only took me moving 460 miles away. 8) Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/stac… My braddah & fellow yelp*er, Mike W., first told be about Stacks a couple of years ago. (He loves this place... 'Along with their coconut syrup!) 'And from the reviews, it appears that a lot of other people are big fans as well. I've been to the Stack's Mission Viejo a few times but never here, until today. I was packing up and getting ready for my long @ss drive back north... 'Even more long with HAPA Boy, my bully-pit in tow. So, what better way to get ready for the day than with my go-to favorite breakfast, linguica, eggs & rice. Comfort grinds that hit the spot, everytime. (Insert big, Kool Aid smile here) Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/stac… My friend, FoS, went for another island favorite and crowd pleaser, the ever popular, loco moco. However, opted for SPAM instead of the traditional hamburger gravy. (I tried dissuading her...) Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/stac… Note: The first time I've ever seen a loco moco served with anything else besides hamburger gravy was @ Stacks Mission Viejo. It's hard for me to order a loco moco other than the way we make'em back home. (Shrugs) When it comes to local grinds, this bruddah likes to stick to the basics. 'And it was good... 'All good. "Ono to da max!" Stacks Dana Point is located right on PCH. (Rooftop parking is available.) Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/stac… I wasn't too hungry, just wanted to make it down here... 'Finally. FoS had never been before and wanted to try it as well. (Thumbs up!) If you've never tasted Portuguese Sausage, (aka linguica), I highly recommend that you try it... You may just like it, A LOT. I'm surprised when I meet people who have never tried linguica. It's perhaps one of my favorite sausages! (There's a Hungarian sausage that's quite similar that I only discovered a few years ago.) Be warned, it's very popular in Hawai'i, (i.e. - Fatty; unhealthy) 'Enjoy! The next time I'm back in SoCal and happen to make it to Stacks, I need to venture off and try something new besides my comfortable favorites. Hmm, maybe something with coconut syrup... 'Waffles or pancakes perhaps? The kalua pork omelette sounds ono too! HA! Choke choices! (Plenty) A hui hou, Stacks! ('Unitl next time!) - Big Aloha! Food: 4 Ambiance: 3+ Service: 5 Value: 3+

While visiting Dana Point for a week, we stopped by Stacks on the first morning. It led to three additional visits for breakfast. It's a unique ordering process, you order inside and then find a table. I expected that to be a big problem because they were very busy but the process works and we did not have to wait for a table. The food was excellent. I enjoyed eggs and corned beef hash, bacon and toast. My daughters enjoyed waffles and eggs and bacon while my wife enjoyed a variety of omelltes. There was a special item on the menu that was French Toast battered in Capt Crunch cereal and macadamian nuts...it was delicious!!! Great place for breakfast!!!

This is place off the hook!! It was my first time tryin out this place after passing by on PCH many times not realizing this hidden place. Its a tiny little place right next to Chronic Taco so its very easy to miss, u really have to slow down to spot this place. They have many outside seating tables as well as inside. I really like the nice and clean design inside the restaurant. I ordered their daily specials Chicken Mole Omelette, and their customers favorites Garden Stuffed Crepes since i m not much of a pancakes fan, glad they have many items besides pancake. Both of my omelette and crepe were delicious, really love the fresh ingredients inside them. Another thing I love about this place was that they have a few bottles of sauces on the counter you can try, like coconut and hot pepper, they also have syrup bottle on each tables as well for ur pancakes. I had the best breakfast ever after stopping by this place!! Will definitly be back trying out other items on their menu!!

All I have to say is order the spicy chicken and waffles. I am a health nut who does not like to eat unhealthy food but seriously, this is totally worth the calories!

An eager to please staff is represented here. Swift service. Fast delivery of orders. Cashiers, waitresses and hosts rotate roles from what I experienced; symbolizing to me that "everyone" helps out. A commendable standard to follow. :) Sunday morning, I called to see how long the wait for a table was and the gal who answered said, "About 15 mins." 5 mins later we arrived, ordered and took our seats in less than 5 mins. Too awesome! Inside seating is not much, rather small, but tables open up at a tolerable pace. Most people seem to opt for the patio. And the unisex restroom is close to the inside dining area. :/ [Clean restroom though] Food was just as great as their good reviews. I built my own omelette adding spinach and mushrooms and chose pancakes as the side (which my husband conquered). I also had the banana and nutella crepes and he ordered a 5th Marine Portuguese sausage burrito. Good prices and highly approved. Anytime I'm in Dana Point, from now on, I will stop here for breakfast! :)

Nice place. You order and then sit down. Service was decent. The pancakes were actually only "eh" for me. But their breakfast dishes were great! My boyfriend had the loco moco with the Portuguese sausage and gravy, I had the chorizo scramble, my mom had the breakfast tacos... Everyone loved those! And my bro had the Greek omelette. If I ever go again I'm getting the chicken and waffles!!!!

The Strawberry, Nutella Crepes were very good. I would recommend that and the California Benedict. Enjoying the weather and eating breakfast at Dana Point is always nice.

We came here around 9 am on Memorial Day- the place was busy, but as soon as we finished ordering, the line grew tenfold! The place was packed when we left. Food came out fast. I really liked how tables were assigned while we waited in line to order, so that we didn't have to search for a table when we came out. There were more than enough servers and bussers and staff on hand, and the place was run like a well oiled machine. The cappuccino was awesome! My Italian husband loved it; and it's rare to find coffee that meets his standards. My gluten free macadamia nut banana pancakes were awesome, especially when the owner's wife (I'm assuming) was sweet enough to run me out coconut syrup! The whipped butter was super yummy. Unfortunately my husband's food all fell way below par :(. His Benedict was soggy, the egg WHITES weren't even cooked, and the potatoes were cold and tasted like they had been made the night before and just nuked in the microwave. The bacon didn't taste fresh either, which is a shame, because it was thin and could have been nice and crisp, just how we like! It tasted like the pre cooked bacon from Costco that is microwaved to order. I was bummed, because I had been hoping this would be our new breakfast place, but my husband doesn't want to come back after all of his food came out bad :(

Found another gem thanks to Yelp! Great breakfast. I ordered the Portuguese sausage plate. Cooked to perfection. My husband had the kahlua pork omelette and that was equally as delicious. Kids ordered the pancake and another hit. So light and fluffy and my kids are picky. Casual atmosphere. Like that you order your food at the counter. Easy to find seating too. They have a system where you order bad someone assists you to find a place. Great service too. Friendly staff!

Solid Place, Solid 4! Found this place while staying at the Laguna Cliffs Resort. The price is right, the wait, even on a weekend at prime time hours (10-11am) is not that bad; even 20 people deep, the wait was the same as if you go to a "regular" breakie place. The food comes out lickety-split, and super tasty good too! The pros: The food, the price, the mellow vibe, no servers to over-tip and the Captain Crunch french toast, easy parking.... The cons: No Bloody marys, (or alcohol), minimal decor.. I would go back in a heartbeat...

    (4)
  • Brittany D.

Absolutely love this place, but get there before 9 am on a weekend unless you're down for a long wait. If the line is out the door, you're okay, but sometimes it literally flies off the patio onto the public sidewalk! Everything here is delicious, service is fast & friendly, portions are huge, and prices are fair (I don't think anything is over $10). It's obvious that all the staff want your experience to be exceptional, which leads me to believe they have a nice work environment. Plenty of vegetarian options & they're great with customizations of their menu items to suit your needs. Get a scramble if you want potatoes AND pancakes with your eggs (best value imo. Almost feels like stealing). Try the coconut syrup. It is phenomenal! If you haven't tried it yet, just go. You will not be disappointed!!

Is this real life? So many creative, delicious creations. Food: Yum. This is one of those places that you want to go back to over and over because there are so many different things you want to try. And I've done just that! Multiple visits and I've liked everything I've tried so far - from the chorizo scramble, to the Spicy Chicken & Bacon Waffles, to the Cap'n Crunch French Toast. Yum, yum, and yum. Service: Decent enough. There aren't really opportunities for the service to stand out, other than when they're taking your order and bringing it to your table. They don't really check in on diners & ensure that everything is ok.. which is totally fine. Location/Atmosphere: It's right of PCH, but kinda tucked in between some stores that stick out closer to the road, so it's a great location but easy to miss if you're not looking for it. There are a bunch of tables inside, and an equal amount outside. It has a bit of a fast-food atmosphere to it, but nicer because of the outside seating & better food. All in all, i loved it, and I'll be returning so I can try more of the creative dishes! Check it out!

Good basic breakfast. Omelettes are not fluffy (thin) type but have quality ingredients. Cubed potatoes are crisp outside and tasty. If you're hungry choose the pancake side over the potatoes. Coffee is very good Small indoor seating area with a large patio on PCH.

  • Vincent C.

This is the place to be for breakfast and just about everyone knows that. There is always a line and most of the time the line is out the door. I usually get the same old stuff which is the mac nut banana pancakes with coconut syrup and a side of bacon. So this is a small place so get here early because seating is limited but most of the tables are on the patio. Also it's a little pricey but I think it's worth it because it's so good.

If I could give 10 stars I would. I've since moved to Colorado - but have to have stacks whenever I visit. Captain crunch French toast for the table- always. And an egg white omelet made to order. Amazing. I'm salivating writing this. I'd hop on a plane right now if I could

Quick family vacay with the family landed us here. What a great place to enjoy a great breakfast. Food was awesome. Wifey had a omelet that was cooked perfectly. I myself had the chorizo scramble, loved it! The kids of course loved the pancakes!

Fast service. Packed even on a thursday but you don't feel rushed. Food comes out quickly, and the servers are friendly. It started to rain so they moved us inside. Greeted and helped right from our entry and the service was over the top. Busers took away empty plates quickly. Overall great brunch. Bacon was good, but bacon is pretty much always good. Pancakes were fluffy, light, and buttery with crispy edges that hold up to the syurp nicely. Eggs came out first, and within minutes, but were cold sadly but perfectly cooked. The syurp was cold and served in a sqeeze bottle, for a pancake house I kind of expected hot syurp. They did have a few flavors including coconut. Great selection of food and specialty pancakes, waffles, scrambles, crepes, and omletes to select from. Possibly the hardest choice I made all day.

A solid favorite of ours when we come down to the OC. This is our 2nd visit and Stacks doesn't disappoint. This is my wife and my breakfast/brunch spot and we are coming back every time we come to town. Chicken and waffles were awesome. Chicken Katsu over a waffle, genius! The staff is super friendly and show you that Aloha spirit.

Staying in the area because one of my friends got married this past weekend. So using the trusty Yelp app I found this great local joint for breakfast! When we got there it was a bit of a lineup, but that just solidified that this is a great place to grab breakfast! I ordered a local favourite the loco Moco with sausage and my husband ordered the special for the morning which was the Cajun chicken scramble with two pancakes on the side. The food was amazing and the prices were great! My favourite was actually the aide of pancakes hahaha, which shows me why the place is called stacked pancake! Because they serve delicious pancakes! If I'm ever here again I would definitely go back!

I have been a fan of Stacks forever and made it down to the Dana Point one ( which I live not even 5 minutes from ) finally. It is super busy on weekends and I had a weekday off so I gave this location a try instead of my usual Mission Viejo one :) What can I say, I have a love for the islands and this place offers many island favorites !! The staff is incredibly nice and attentive. One person who specifically stood out was Juanita. She came around several times to offer beverage refills as well as if we wanted anything with our omelets such as salsa. She always had a smile on her face and was so kind !!

  • Tina S.

The only bad thing I can say about this place is that I didn't discover it sooner! First time here, had to come home and review it! MENU: huge selection. Everything from $10 Kalbi ribs combo to a $7 breakfast combos, to moco loco. Are you kidding me with the Hawaiian / Korean / American options. Be careful if you come here hungry, you'll never be able to decide! I can eat, and I didn't finish my meal. So portions were worth the money! PRICES: cheap! PARKING: plenty and free, but I went on a Wednesday at noon. minimal street parking, but a decent sized lot in the back shared by all the businesses in the shopping center STAFF: friendly, attentive GO! Get there. OR go spend too much money for not as good food elsewhere.

Love this place, I haven't been here in forever, but the portions are huge, and the food is delicious! Every time we would go here the food was delicious and fresh, and love the coconut syrup, its kind of the best stuff! Will need to go here again soon, I miss it.

I was looking for a place to get a solid brunch while staying in San Clemente, which is super close to Dana Point. The food was on point: the buttermilk pancakes were fresh and fluffy, and the syrup wasn't too overwhelming. I had the chorizo scramble which was delicious, although the tomato was a tad overwhelming. The dish came with a side of potatoes, which were tasty but a little dry. The prices are also very reasonable (I was a little skeptical looking at the menu but I had initially underestimated the portions). The only thing I didn't like was how you actually order. You wait in a line to get to the counter, and then a waitress will assign you a table while you're still in line. While you don't have to wait for long after you order, the wait outside in the heat can be super uncomfortable especially if the line is super long. Overall, Stacks was a solid dining experience and I would recommend it to anyone in the area.

Banana Nutelle Crepe and Loco Moco what else could I ask for? Both were amazing and I'm so glad I came upon this place during our visit to Mission SJC back in December. Based on reviews it gets super busy but the Saturday we went here it wasn't that busy so we had no problems getting a table. The place itself is quite small but there's plenty of room for a few tables and a few tables available outside. The staff are all very nice and accommodating. Food service is great and done in a timely manner. *Don't forget to ask for Coconut Syrup for your pancakes.* That thing is heaven in a bottle.

I went to stacks 4 days in a row, the entire time I was in Laguna beach. It was fantastic all 4 times. They were so accommodating and always found a clean table and somewhere for us to sit. All the food was delicious and so many different kinds of dishes for such a reasonable price. The servings are hearty and always leave you full. We had the light bite which is great if you want a smaller dish, fitness omelet, breakfast burrito, blueberry pancakes, Nutella banana crepes, garden crepes, and the special Cajun chicken scramble, over the course of 4 days. The Cajun chicken scramble was my personal favorite, the garden crepes were a close second favorite. Some things were so good that we had them again the next day. The entire staff was wonderful and it was just such a wonderful experience. All the way from NY it was my favorite part to my trip.

  • Brit W.

The food here was ok, but the reason im giving it two stars was because of the comical way I was treated while I was there. The staff kept forgetting WHY I was sitting at a table and began to get irritated at me for my presence. I was waiting for my food! Haha. Yikes on the intelligence of this young staff with the repetitive questioning on that one. I think they wanted the table? I'd go somewhere else that is more mellow, they are just pancakes.

This place is busy! Line out the door but we ordered and were seated within 5 min. Kids meals are a great deal! The kids demolished the food. Tried Portuguese sausage burrito and it was so good. Coconut pineapple pancakes were so yummy too. Best part of it was the service. For a casual order at the counter type place the staff was friendly And checked on us multiple times throughout our meal. Always filling our water cups too. Really great meal and would highly recommend.

Delicious breakfast for a great value! Came here on a weekend morning so yes, there was a significant line... but it moves quickly and food comes out fast. We had the pancakes (with coconut syrup of course), burrito, fried rice, and eggs... all excellent with big portions that are enough to share. One tiny downside is that the crowd of people in line can make the outdoor tables seem smushed/crowded. However, it's something I overlook again and again to come back here for great breakfast!

Fun place and interesting (in a good way) food. We had the Spicy Chicken and Bacon Waffle with M&M Pancakes. It was all very good! The taste combos were unique and we enjoyed everything. The rest of their menu looks pretty good too. Find a table before you go to the counter. This place seems to be fairly busy and there's only 8 tables inside.

A great little breakfast spot. 1st good sign was the excellent yelp reviews and the 2nd was the line to get in for breakfast, which by the way, was handled very smooth and went fast. Classic breakfast menu with the eggs Benny being our top favorite. A couple versions to choose from as well. Also killer pancakes. Great service with a smile as well. We'll be back.

Simple and delicious! I loved their spicy chicken and waffles! I don't think anyone else makes them like this! All the flavours go so well together! Their loco moco was a bit on the salty side but still gives you that feeling of eating brunch in Hawaii! I've been here twice in a month and will be back next time I'm in the area!

Great breakfast place. Everything about this joint is just heavenly. This restaurant is located in beautiful Dana point, with pure fresh air right by the ocean. There is parking right in front of the restaurant and if busy there is also some more parking spots in the back. Although they get really busy, and crowded, I feel like it's still worth fighting the crowd to get a seat and enjoy the amazing meal. I recommend the eggs Benedict and the strawberry cream crepes. Posted pics of both. The pancakes were pretty darn amazing as well. The coffee is always brewed to perfection. I totally recommend this joint for breakfast, brunch or just a simple coffee and pancakes.

Super good breakfast. My friends and I went here after a little hike and FEASTED. We tried the banana pancakes which were delicious, so fluffy! We tried the nutella French toast which is made using Hawaiian sweet bread, so good! I had the Mexican scramble chorizo and it was also really good! The potatoes were alright.

I've tried this place 3 or 4 times now. I just don't get the hype. The omelettes- meh. The eggs benedict- meh. The pancakes- goodish, but nothing special. The spicy chicken and waffle- delicious, but followed by a terrible stomachache. I think I've made my peace with this place. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day- I can't just waste it on meh.

Was taking a day trip up to Laguna Beach for the day and Yelp popped this breakfast place out, had some pretty good reviews for a breakfast place. Plenty of parking when I arrived on a Saturday around 8-9ish in the morning. They have a lot of parking in the lot above the restaurant. Luckily we just got into the place before it got really busy. It was quite chilly outside, so we did not want a table outside, the seating inside is very limited. This place is the kinda of place where you order your food and they bring it to you. However, they are too lazy to bring you the drinks, so you have to wait around to grab them from the front cashier area which is kinda weird. Is this Starbucks or a restaurant? Unfortunately this place is very small, and the tables are really tightly packed together. People are constantly bumping into your table (remember they have to get their own drinks, table ware, and condiments so people are constantly walking around). Also don't forget the kids who can't stay in their seat, they love to bump into you while your trying to enjoy your food. There is way too many tables in the place for the limited seating area. I ordered the Captain Crunch & mac nut french toast, which is a customer favorite for this place. My friend ordered a build your own omelette. The food came out pretty quick, considering how busy they were getting with orders. The food arrived and my french toast was amazing. The texture of the captain crunch with Hawaiian toast was great. Then you'd get a macadamia nut every once in a while and it'd give it that extra crunch taste. Absolutely awesome french toast, well worth the price. I was definitely happy with my food. I can't say the same for my friend's food though. She is a vegetarian, and usually orders eggs with lots of veggies. She asked them specifically for some jalapenos which were never put in the omelette. Also, she's a strict vegetarian who does not want anything to do with meat. They managed to get some pieces of bacon into her food which obliviously upset her. The positive thing about the omelette was that the veggies were cooked perfectly and had a great seasoning to them. The spinach was very fresh, and prepared well. I'd come back to this place if I was in the area, but I don't visit the Dana Point area very often. The food was definitely great, just the atmosphere sucked majorly. Also I know this isn't a coffee place, but for a breakfast place, their coffee was horrible. But the prices were definitely acceptable and the food was delicious in my opinion.

Always drove by this place and saw a line and finally was able to check it out. I felt a bit overwhelmed when i stood in line and realized all of the tables were being occupied. I wondered what would happen if we ordered the food but had no place to sit by the time the food came out. I asked the cashier this question and she kindly asked someone else to assist us in finding a seat (whew!). Staff throughout was very friendly and quick. I was pleasantly surprised given how busy this place was. The food was ok. I'm a huevos rancheros queen and this place left a lot to be desired. Nothing was horribly wrong but nothing stood out about it. I have to say though, I thought the home fries were crispy and delicious. My friend didn't seem very impressed w/ the kahlua pig benedict. He said it was a bit dry and flavorless. He also didn't seem as impressed w/ his banana nut pancakes. He kept saying he should've gone w/ the french toast. Overall not bad.

Banana nut pancakes were good but the fit omelet needs more flavor.

I love stacks! This is such a great breakfast spot! I have tried many things on their menu and everything is great- my favorite things is the strawberry banana Nutella crepes- also their egg scrambles are delicious. The owners are so nice here and care about the quality of food and their restaurant as a whole . I've been coming here since they opened and I used to come everyday on my way to work for a to-go breakfast. The wife was so sweet she gave me a 20$ gift card at Christmas for being a regular. I will always remember that and enjoy coming here!!

  • Bethany C.

Totally wish I could come here more, but I live too far away. The few times I've been here, I've had their pancakes and home fries, which are both huge breakfast hits. I'm pretty picky about my home fries, but Stacks meets the standard. What makes these pancakes for sure is their coconut syrup. Mmmm. A stellar breakfast/brunch place. There isn't a whole lot of room for sit-in dining, and only few tables outside, but it's right by the beach for crying out loud - take it to go and eat oceanside. Perhaps only one minimal complaint is that the air conditioning by the door made the wait in line to order a little too chilly.

Banana Nutella French toast is soooo delicious. Service was excellent. Atmosphere is good. Will be going back soon to show my daughters some good food.

  • Keith K.

Food was good, coffee was good. Had Eggs Benedict and Banana Nutella French Toast. Potatoes that were served with the EB were nothing special. Could have used some seasoning. And, French Toast could have been a little crispier. I am not a fan of counter service. Inside seating felt cramped. There was plenty of outdoor seating but it was a little warm to eat outside. A true 3* experience. Nothing particularly wrong but nothing memorable either. Glad we went to try it out but will not go back.

We drove by this place so many times and decided to try it this morning. There was a line but it moves at a decent pace. We ordered spicy chicken and waffle. That was so good! Also we had link sausage and egg over easy. This was okay. We will go back tomorrow morning and try the macadamia nut pancake and loco moco combo.

  • Kay A.

I'm not sure if they changed owners but I gave this place another chance. They have gluten free french toast and pancakes which is a plus for my family. I on the other hand got a short stack of the banana mac nut pancakes and loved them with the coconut syrup!! Comes with 3 and it's fluffy and yummy. I got a side of bacon and scrambled eggs. The bacon could be better. It was too greasy and not the right amount of crispy. Service here is FRIENDLY. It's sad that I'm shocked to get service with a smile these days. So yes 4 stars for those smiles!!

this place is on the PCH and if your not looking for it you might miss it! the food was very good it was better than average and decently priced for an order and sit restaurant. I had eggs Benedict and it was very good the hollandaise was done correct I could have used a bit more but it worked how they served it. the home fried potatoes were huge I had to cut them in half to eat them. but the were seasoned well and I didn't have to add salt or pepper. My com padres had the Calif Benedict with tomato and avocado and home fried potatoes last we had a California Omelet cooked to perfection and served hot. The omelet was fluffy and wrapped around bacon, Swiss and avocado with a side of fruit. it had no pan marks either. the service was fast and courteous. we ate inside which if i had thought about it we would have eaten on the patio. Great experience would defiantly come back.

Looked up a place on yelp for my boyfriend and I to stop by for breakfast because I was taking him down to Dana Point for his birthday I found this place and decided to give it a go! I got the banana strawberry Nutella crepes and they were AMAZING! Not only did they look good but they tasted great. Only downside was that the line was out the door and seating was hard to find. We had to snatch a table before it was even cleared. Would still go back though!

Awesome breakfast place to go to! It's a great atmosphere and you can't go wrong with whatever you choose to order. I always get bacon, eggs, and a stack of pancakes!

This place has amazing food! I had an omelet (build your own) along with buttermilk pancakes and my husband had the kalua pork benedict, we both enjoyed our meals and had absolutely no complaints. This is a very busy place so expect to wait a little in line, we went when it was busy, had about 6 people in front of us but it goes by fast and they had a table for us right away too. Great service, quick bringing out the food too.

Stacks is an awesome local breakfast joint! The food is great and reasonably priced. Everyone of their employees are super nice and helpful. One girl who worked there (I don't know what her name was) was beyond helpful to us. She always made sure our drinks were always refilled and she even offered to put in cream and sugar in our coffees for us. Awesome place!

Came here before deep sea fishing ..Good basic breakfast food. Nothing special Pancake were pretty tough. Couldn't cut them with just my fork. Where's the fluffiness !? Had the mexican skillet and a spinach omelette. Fruit consisted of Mostly melons which I don't like. Park on the roof!

This is all you need: amazing service, fluffy pancakes, great prices, quick service. This place has the right formula ! I'm going back tomorrow : )

  • Tawna R.

Pretty mediocre pancakes, typical aunt jemima corn syrup, nothing special... Busy and I cannot see why, not even that large of a selection of pancakes. Fast and friendly service, kid and dog friendly, which is why it received 3 stars, oh and lattes are yummy. Better pancakes at Penguin Cafe in Laguna, a little diner that boasts a far larger menu and tastier food.

  • Yelana R.

I had eggs benedict and a capuccino, my friends had pancakes, eggs, tea and coffe.. everything was incredible ! the service was fast, the ladies there run a tight ship! price is really reasonable. please open one in san diego! if you don't, then I'll just have to drive a bit every now ansd then because I *will* be coming back. yum!

Thank you to all the previous posters who recommended so highly. My wife and I came here for breakfast two out of our five days and loved it both times...can't go wrong with the pancakes, waffle or crepes...I only wish we could have come back one more time to try the french toast. Scrambled eggs were done very well and the turkey bacon was very good as well. Staff was very polite and with a smile every time. To top it off, the prices are very reasonable and exceptionally so given the area.

This was sooo yummy. I had the Fitness Omelette and Sexy had the Blueberry Pancakes. Both yummers!! We will be back :)

  • Richard T.

This was my first time to Stacks. The number of good reviews convinced me to try it. Their blueberry pancake were good. The boysenberry syrup made the pancakes much better and I thought the coffee was very good. However the best part is their service. The employees pleasant and hustling. The manager/owner(?) is on top of everything while making sure everyone has what they need. Looking around, all the food looks great and plenty of it.

  • M M.

The food may be good but I wouldn't know....stood in line for about 20 minutes withy a staving fussy two year old and then stormed out. Maybe if we were white we would have had a different experience....I haven't felt so discriminated against and felt such racial tension, especially from ignorant bigots that are their usual customers, in a very very long time!

Finally found decent fried rice except this is the OC not SD. My search of that in San Diego continues. (thumbs down!) Thumbs up to Stacks! Who the heck was up late at night w/the munchies and mixed Captain Crunch w/their French Toast? You are brilliant! Add some Strawberry's, real butter, quality syrup and a dash of powdered sugar and you got one happy El Capitan! A must try! Had the over easy eggs w/perfectly marinated and tender Korean Kalbi and the flavor packed fried rice. The table next to me are regulars and brought first timers also. They kept raving about the fried rice too! Come here for breakfast or brunch if you are in the OC. Come early coz the line is out the door. Don't be discouraged the line moves quick. There is seating with heat lamps outside coz its limited space inside. Park in the structure above the restaurant and take a short 2 flights of steps to the front. Satisfied customer. Big ups to the friendly, professional and accommodating staff. You folks rock! Coming back to try more items

Discovered this place while on a weekend getaway with my hubby a couple of years ago and we've loved it ever since! We've taken the whole family back and we plan on coming back again and again! The pancakes just melt in your mouth! Everything on the menu is delicious!!!

Stacks has delicious food. I love their Mac'nut banana pancakes. The one thing I don't like is how hard it is to get a table when it is busy. You have to order at a counter and find a table after. Not too bad when it isn't crowded, but when it is you always wondering if you are going to find a table before they are ready to bring your food out to you.

    (4)
  • BJ B.

Stacks has some awesome pancakes (try the blueberry ricotta if they have it). The food is consistent and yummy. It is hard to pull off making poached eggs, but they are able to do it and in a small kitchen. It is a well oiled machine. The only drawback is parking and seating, but I just don't go during busy times.

Just happened by and saw the long line out the door. The locals say it's unusually long due to Father's Day but well worth the wait. They were right! The line went pretty quickly because everyong working was hussling. Every waiter/waitress was friendly, accommodating, and attentive. 5 stars for service! We went with the local favorites...Kalua Pork Omelet, Garden Fresh Vegetable Crepes, and Mac Nut and Banana Pancakes. Our food was served as soon as we got our beverages and sat at the table they secured for us. Food was delicious. My husband says it's worth the drive in from LA. Server Allie caught my attention with her friendly smile and was there to please. We just got in line and she offered us a menu and appologized for the long line. If the locals are willing to wait in a long line then I figure I can't go wrong :-)

Husband & I came here on a Wednesday morning around 9am and it was busy. Not slammed, but solidly busy, and still our food came out FAST. I had huevos rancheros and husband had banana Nutella crepes. The huevos rancheros were solid. Very yummy but not the best I've ever had. The banana Nutella crepes were awesome. I mean seriously AWESOME. The service was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Coffee refills were fast. Seating is ample. Plenty indoors and outside on the patio. This is one of those places where you order at the counter and they give you a number and bring your food to your table. We will definitely be back!

This place is ideal. Phenomenal service (Catalina was outstanding), fantastic food, reasonable prices. Order at the counter. Sit inside or out. We had the banana waffle (put their coconut syrup on it- wow!!). Strawberry crepe and eggs and sausage. Hearty portions! Loved this place.

Excellent food and excellent prices! Very small seating areas and pretty busy for a Wednesday. A local was seated next to us and she said the line is ridiculous on the weekends. Parents: there's only one bathroom. This is a Coca Cola house ;)

Everything is amazing! If you want something sweet, my favorite is the Captain Crunch Macadamia Nut French Toast -- with the coconut syrup of course. If you want something a little more hearty, go with the Kalua Pulled Pork Benedict.

I love the fact that its in Dana Point, by the ocean in a nice neighborhood. The food is good and the price is right. I told my boy, it's gotta be owned by Asians even though it's american breakfast, he didn't believe me, then we asked the waitress, and it was owned by Filipino, I'm so right, the food is yummy, Asians makes the best food :) Other than seated by the trashcan, everything else is quite nice. The sun is great, the service is good, and the food is delicious. However, the OJ was so so .... was it pre-squeezed? Maybe it's been sitting out for awhile and that's why not as yummy compared to the freshly cooked french toast and crepes? Still a 4 stars to me, but maybe let's move the trashcans else where, not in the dining patio area :)

THIS IS MY FAVORITE BREAKFAST SPOT!!! My husband and I LOVE it here and it's always a treat to eat here. Everything comes out so fast, and no matter how busy it is, we've never had to wait for a seat. All the staff are so sweet and smiley all the time, we can't help but smile too. The price is right, the service is awesome and the food is to die for. Captain Mac Nut French Toast is always a favorite that we share!

It was pretty crowded when I went, but somehow there's a table available for you when you're done ordering. The food came out pretty quickly and tasted fantastic. The staff is friendly and quick with orders and cleaning. There's plenty of (free) parking in the lot. The eggs Benedict was really good and so was the banana Nutella French toast- the coconut syrup is a must... Highly recommend this place for brunch or even just coffee

Clubhouse eggs Benedict is bomb. Home style potatoes are crispy yet leave something to be desired. Not sure what's missing, but something is definitely missing. Otherwise great service and friendly atmosphere.

This place embodies great food and superior customer service. They have something for everyone--gluten free and even healthy omelette options. The staff is extremely helpful--they helped us find a table when the restaurant was busy and took the time to get a high chair for our son. Amazing!

  • Harrison S.

I don't give 5 stars very often but this place deserves it. Great food as close to Hawaiian breakfast as you can get. The staff is always nice and quick. The only downfall is that it can get crowded but that's because its so good. Stop here or the MV location for so good grub! And even the music gives a decent island feel. Jack Johnson, Anuhea and plenty of other island goodies.

The hubs and I were craving American style breakfast after flying in from Paris last pm. The staff was very accommodating as I wanted a veggie scramble but one isn't on the menu. They turned the veggie omelet into a scramble and added avocado. It it the spot!! The hubs had the b-fast burrito and said it was excellent. If you want your coffee to go after the meal- they give you a fresh cup to go!

If there is French Toast in heaven, I want it to be the Gluten-Free Captain Cruch Mac Nut French Toast with Coconut Syrup. Wow! My sister and I went here early on a Monday for her birthday breakfast. The staff was friendly and answered all of our questions regarding the menu. I was afraid the Captain Crunch French Toast would lose its appeal when ordering the bread Gluten-Free, but boy was I wrong! It wasn't too sweet or filling, and had an amazing crunch and texture. My sister ordered the Banana Nutella French Toast and she said it may have been too sweet as a pre-surf meal, but she still finished the whole thing (ha!). The servers would check on us periodically to see if there was anything else we needed, which was great. She even brought over Coconut Syrup for us to try with our breakfast, which I have never had before. I don't think I will ever go back to maple syrup again. So delightful. We even chatted about surf shops in the area, and ended up checking out Girl in the Curl after our morning paddle. The ONLY thing that threw us is that the space is a little small. There was a couple at a table directly beside us arguing, and we could hear the entire conversation! Aca-awkward... I hope they will consider expanding, and I will one day brave the restaurant during a weekend, but thanks for a great experience overall!

My new wife and I love this place big time! All it takes is for one of us to say "Stacks? Eh?", and we both rather excitedly jump in the car and drive from Laguna Beach. The place is super busy, but we never feel as though we have to wait, the food comes out super fast is always awesome! The Captain M'nut is our favorite dish (Captain Crunch French toast) and we always split an order of that in addition to our entrées. All this, and we never spend money like we went out for breakfast. Great product, and great service! We're lifers now.

Long waits are worth it at Stacks. The seating is poor. The service is hasty. Doesn't matter. The food is outstanding. Best breakfast we've had in Orange County yet.

My food was lukewarm today but I was hungry so I ate it and did not complain to staff. Food prep was better a couple years ago when we first came here.

  • Kimbi G.

This place is just awesome. The owner and staff are great and make really great breakfast/brunch dishes. I am particularly in love with their jevoes rancheros and their simple but perfectly made Belgian waffels. They definately are noted for their pancakes (it being a pancake house, as it is). My boyfriend has declared, pretty adimently in the past, that he does Not like pancakes... I myself have always loved a good pancake. After a little coaxing I got him to try some. He has since then, changed his tune.;)

    (5)
  • Bryan B.

Fantastic breakfast! The food was fresh, the service was quick and super friendly. My buddies and I went there after surfing and had a perfect meal. I got the basic bacon (Applewood smoked)and eggs, but instead of pancakes I got the french toast (made with Kings Hawaiian bread) perf, my buddie got the macadamia nut waffle which he raved about. All and all a good time. The down side is, it's a small place, not much seating inside. They do have tables outside which works, but if you have a huge group you may want to hit Harbor House.

  • Ken G.

I've lived in So.OC all my life and have seen businesses come and go. I cant really keep up with all the new fooderies here that open after another has closed. Ive been driving by Stacks for years now and thought it would be just another place to go under like so many before. Sad but true. But today I actually stopped in and I was truly amazed! The service was incredibly fast! The Greek omelet was fantastic and so were the pancakes! Prices were dirt cheap too compared to RJ's, The Brig, Harbor House and Proud Mary's. Best in D.P.

I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs. They fry the corned beef on a cooktop and the eggs and potatoes are business as usual I noticed the corned beef was perfectly consistent so I asked how they prepare the corned beef and they said it is canned. Canned?

    (2)
  • Marcus E.

This place is AMAZING! It is our families favorite breakfast spot! The staff is kind and the food is absolutely amazing. The "Lite Bite" is a simple, yet delicious breakfast (pancakes, eggs, and bacon). My wife loves the corned beef hash. the kids love the banana pancakes. You can't go wrong at Stacks!

This somewhat Hawaiian influenced American restaurant is the perfect place for breakfast or any meal of the day. Outside seating is perfect on a nice day. Super fast service and helpful workers! Best dish that I got was the Spicy Chicken and Bacon Waffles. Very rich in flavor and super heavy, but worth the calories. If you are here for the first time, I recommend this dish. There is this super dank coconut syrup that you should put on this chicken or any of the waffles that you can order. Kalua eggs benedict was also tasty as well. Gets crowded quick so there may be a long line on the weekends. For sure would come back and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good breakfast.

  • Sammi D.

This place was AMAZING. We were up in Dana Point from San Diego for our anniversary, and stopped here for breakfast on the way out. Both the crepes and pancakes were delicious! They also make their own coconut syrup. They've ruined me. It was one of the best things I've ever tasted. My only complaint is that they're too far north for us to go more frequently, and they don't sell (yet) their coconut syrup. Highly recommend this place! We'll definitely be going back when we are in the area.

Ok, this place is awesome. 5 Words: Cap'n Crunch Macadamia French Toast. And add another 2 words: Coconut Syrup. I get this every time I visit this place. And what's even better -- they make this sweet indulgence out of King's Hawaiian bread! Mmmm. Foodgasm. Today I tried their Kahlua Pork omelet. Delicious, if you're into Hawaiian Kahlua roast pig. So many choices, so many flavors, all for a great price = great value!

Sure, the lines can be long but the food is good and the service is efficient and friendly. We went last Sunday morning, Easter Sunday. The line stretched way out the door but Catalina was running logistics like a smiling drill sargent and we had a table with food on it within a half hour. And we were a hungry party of seven. We enjoyed the macadamia nut and banana pancakes with coconut syrup. The Nutella banana french toast was also popular. I tried my wife's pork chile verde omelet and it was really good. The pork was cooked just right. We returned the next day and were surprised to find a line on a Monday. But they are so well organized that we were drizzling syrup in no time.

    (4)
  • Mayra T.

Stopped by on a Sunday when the line was pretty long but it only took about 20 minutes to order and be seated. We ordered the banana macadamia nut pancakes, the banana and Nutella crepes, and home fried potatoes. Everything was tasty and well cooked. Ask for the coconut syrup for the pancakes that was amazing. This place was definitely worth the wait!

Several weeks ago, a buddy of mine (at work) was "Good Samaritan" enough to advise me of his Yelperous trek to Stacks and asked me if I'd like anything from this under-recognized gem-in-the-wall. I asked him to deliver me a classic Hawaiian "Burger patty loco moco on rice with over-easy eggs." The lot was ready for me at work, and I devoured it like a Texas hurricance upon seeing it. The patty was well-cooked as it sat on top of it's fluffy rice bed. The brown gravy complimented the overall flavors of the beef patty and steamed rice as well. The accompanying fried egg was the icing on the cake as it adorned the meal and made it heavenly. Overall take on the dish -- WIN!! Oh yeah, portion in regards to price was very much on par. I'd like to sit in one day and sample a short stack of their banana and macadamia nut pancakes, their oreo pancakes, -and/or- or the Japanese fried rice omelette (that seems to be non-existent off their menu). Definitely recommend, and will gladly fork my $$ for their grub!!

Stacks is not just breakfast.. It's real deal great food. Kalua pork omelet is legit. Be prepared to wait a bit since the place is tiny and popular. The line moves quick and the food is definitely worth it.

What a great place for good fresh breakfast /brunch food! The Whole wheat waffles were pretty moist and the banana macadamia pancakes is a must have. Try their coconut syrup.. delicious! If you're in the healthy mood, get the fitness omelet.. pretty good. This place gets pretty packed!

Fast food breakfast? Yes, and it's good! You walk thru the line to order, find a table, (we ate outside) and enjoy. I had a bacon and egg breakfast with a side of pancakes. Very filling and tasty. If you're looking for a sit down diner, then move on. You won't be waited on here. But if you want a tasty breakfast, stop on by and give it a try! You won't be disappointed.

Heard great things about this local breakfast place. All of the food was delicious and very fast, exceptional service as well. I shared the California Benedict and pineapple pancakes, both were very tasty. A great find!

Had chicken and waffles. Best breakfast I've EVER eaten! Great atmosphere - even though you're right on PCH, I really didn't notice and being close to the coast the weather is always milder.

Perfect cafe. I loved this place. They have a twist of Hawaiian dishes on the menu. I tried the loco moco. It was great. I can't wait to come back try the Kahula pork benecit. Good stuff!

Great place! Loved the efficiency in getting the food. Food was amazing as well! Definitely check this place out if you happen to be visiting Dana Point. Updated from 4 stars to 5 stars based on the efforts of the management to keep tabs on their reviews, that just tells me the management cares a great deal and work on keeping stacks, stacked with awesomeness!

Want to experience the best French Toast you'll ever have in your entire life? Order the Captain Crunch Peanut Butter! We had breakfast here on a beautiful and sunny winter morning. This breakfast spot is located right by the water on PCH in Dana Point. This was actually my first time in Dana Point as well. What a beautiful city! Indoor seating is quite limited in my opinion. But there's plenty of outside patio seating as well. This spot is very casual in the fact that you order your food up front, they give you a number and they bring you your food once it's ready. The bf Brad C. ordered Captain Crunch Peanut Butter French Toast as well but he added bananas AND Nutella to his order. Talk about a foodgasm! Mine was just perfect stuffed with only PB. There's something about the flavor of Cap N' Crunch and thick slices of French Toast that just makes my panties wet. :P Our friends ordered the Egg Florentine and Huevos Rancheros and they both loved their plates. In fact, all of us licked our plates clean by the end of the meal. Service here is extremely friendly and accommodating. Prices are very reasonable. And there's parking on the street as well as plenty of parking in their own lot right above the restaurant. Definitely a breakfast fave in Dana Point!

I had Mac-nut Banana pancake It tasted ok and I think I'll try something else next time we visit I think a small dap of whipped cream , a few slices of banana and crushed nuts sprinkled would help or a slice of orange or strawberry for presentation I really can't compare it to places in Hawaii The service was excellent We'll keep stopping by on our way home from SD

Sure you could get anything on this menu and it would be delicious, but nothing, I mean nothing, tops the chicken and waffles. Hands down most amazing breakfast. Tiny bit of spice, so much flavor. I want to eat five of them and end in a food coma!

Great portions for the price. Good quality and excellent variety. I like the Asian fusion style menu they offer. I ordered the kalbi and eggs with pancakes. I'll be back.

Pretty average diner food here. We had the florentine scramble (pretty good), eggs benedict (bland), strawberry waffle (I think they use pancake batter???), and Cap'n Crunch peanut butter French toast (good but eggy). The coffee is mediocre but the orange juice was really good. No refill on our coffees and there were hairs wrapped around the condiments on our table (eeeewwww!), but the outdoor atmosphere is nice.

My daughter and I were just at a conference in Dana Point. Valet recommended Stacks for breakfast Sunday. We weren't disappointed. Omelets were delish, and my double capuchino was one of the best I've had. To top it off, service was prompt, attentive and friendly. We'd go back for sure next time we're in the area!

is just perfect! Friendly staff and the food was amazing! We were 4 people and each of us ordered different things and each one was as amazing az the other ones! My favorite was the eggs Benedict and the strawberry waffles. I will definitely go back again!!! Thank you!

When there is a line out the door on a weekday you know it's a good sign. Went here a while back. because I was in the area and hungry I went to yelp...yelp reviews are correct, great cakes, quick service and heated outdoor seating

We came in with a party of 10 and although the line was super long, the wait staff made sure to get a few tables together for us. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food with no complaints (that's rare!) Everything looked and tasted delicious. The portions were substantial and we left satisfied. Will definitely eat here again when I'm in the area.

I live 1 mile from this restaurant, so have given them chances since they opened. Its okay food - corned beef has break burr, eggs bene, banana pancakes - all pretty good - but on par with a Dennys or IHOP. Since teenage kids made it their hangout about 8 months ago, crowds now. Food comes out slow, hard to find seating, sometimes quite loud and obnoxious. Front workers are good.

Stacks has great food and is one of my favorites in OC. With a great menu at very fair prices this place is crowded but definitely worth waiting for a table with your family. The best part in addition to the food is the service you get from the wonderful staff! enjoy Craig T

Hands down the BEST local breakfast spot in Dana Point or San Clemente. It is also the ONLY place that serves gluten free pancakes AND gluten free waffles- AND THEY ARE DELICIOUS! I seriously can not tell they are g-free- awesome recipe! You have to get here early for SURE on a weekend but on a week day the wait isn't too bad. It would be nice if they had more seating available inside but it's just not possible unless they take over one of the businesses next to them.

Stopped in for Breakfast with the Wife, a nice little spot that gets crowded quick, it was empty when we arrived and in like 10 minutes it was packed with what seemed locals, like they just rolled out of bed threw on some shorts and flip flops and headed over, wish we had a place like this in the hood!. The Wife loves Crepes and Pancakes and by the looks of others plates they do things right! so what does she order.... YES, an Omelet, me hey were in a Pancake House so I'm having a Breakfast Burrito, makes sense right!?...NO! Omelet California - yelp.com/biz_photos/stac… Eggs, Bacon, Cheese & Avocado! yelp.com/biz_photos/stac… my Wife gave it two thumbs up, psst - Hey I betcha the California Omelet uses these insockmonkeyslippers.com… 5th Marine Breakfast Burrito (Yeah that's what it's called) - yelp.com/biz_photos/stac… Bacon, Portuguese Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Cheddar Jack Cheese & Potato's... only one word can describe this Masterpiece yelp.com/biz_photos/stac… (((OORAH))) Salsa Verde - yelp.com/biz_photos/stac… A very good salsa with slight kick... they don't have Roja!

CELIACS BEWARE! There are a few items on the menu that state they are gluten free, but they are not. Everything is prepared with the same stuff as the gluten fare. My sweet little niece was so excited when she read the menu, but was in tears when she found out she couldn't eat with the rest of us. Hopefully they will find a way not to cross-contaminate. Separate pans, bowls and utensils aren't that hard to do. They weren't even willing to wash a pan for her :(. The GF issue aside, everyone else enjoyed their food. I had the chorizo and eggs, quite tasty. My sister loved the Nutella Banana French Toast. My nephew ate two orders of pancakes. Hubby liked his Mexican Scramble. Service was good overall, especially the lady bringing the orders out. But, the unwillingness to accommodate my niece was disappointing.

I am fairly picky and really dislike places that are disorganized or pricey. I wish I could give 6 stars to this place. My GF and I found this place from yelp...and it did not disappoint. Bloody amazing! There was a line out the door...and I thought we should just go elsewhere but this place is used to big crowds ....we probably only lined up for 7 to 8 minutes but while we were waiting the staff gave us a menu and asked which table we liked, then reserved the table and gave us a number....wow ...no fighting other people for tables, no arguing over who got there first and an assured place to sit. The staff were amazing! The selection of food is amazing...my GF and I literally liked 90% on the menu. To top it all off our food was 5 minutes and was delicious ...we had Captain Crunch French Toast, Blueberry pancakes, chicken cilantro sausages and eggs...oh and an amazing Green Tea Latte. This place is amazing!

My husband and I were on a weekend getaway in Dana point. We went to stacks for breakfast the first morning and had the macadamia banana pancakes with coconut syrup. It was so good we had to go back the next morning! We live in San Diego and are planning to take our 2 kids on a breakfast road trip to stacks pancake house!

Not many place where you see Moco Loco plate, & Kalua Pork Benedict. Everything was very tasty and reminded me of being in Maui. There is a variety of pancake waffles and crepes. Keeping it simple we also ordered buttermilk pancake, fluffy and cooked just right, they came to us steamy hot so this made the food even better. Service was friendly. We came on a perfect day since we were informed on the weekends Stacks has a very long line, but it moves quick.

I was searching for some gluten free pancakes and this place popped up on yelp. I ordered chocolate chip gluten free pancakes for me and my kids. They were so good I double checked to make sure they were gluten free. They were! It's too bad we discovered this place on our last day of vacation. My husband loved his garden crepe and mango smoothie. Delicious!

Delicious breakfast (pancakes especially) at very reasonable prices. Very friendly staff too. Line for a table looked daunting at first but they keep it moving and we were seated with our food in 5 minutes. Perfect cozy spot on a rainy Sunday morning.

I have been to this place a few times already, so I thought it would be fair for this to be my first review (bare with me please) The place has good reviews are already so I don't want to repeat everything. The pancakes are amazing give the name Stacks. If you are a health nut they have a gluten free option (can't even taste the difference). They have various types of syrup but you have to ask for them. If you go on the weekends get there early and get a table when you can bc this place gets PACKED! The service is excellent.

Came here around 10 on a Friday and the line was out the door. Once we ordered it took about 5 minutes to get our food. Not terribly expensive and the service was great for it being so busy. My only gripe is that it was a little difficult to get a seat, so be prepared. I ordered the Clubhouse Benedict, which comes with turkey and bacon, it was delicious. The food is great and I would definitely come here again

The breakfast was great!!! The khalua pork omelet was soo good!! I also had the blueberry pancakes with macaroni salad on the side! Even though the store was busy the food came out pretty quickly! Great spot love it!

Ehhh nothing I'll remember. I've been looking forward to eating here bcz of the reviews. I got the Oreo waffle and my mom got an omelet and a side of bacon. Nothing stood out, in fact I could have made a better version at my house. The omelet had bacon bits in it (not real bacon) and the bacon was rather chewy. The lady said there orange juice was fresh squeezed, but it didn't taste fresh, tasted like it was from a carton. Giving it 3 stars bcz it was very fast service and you can only expect so much from these places. Next time I'll save myself the 25$ and go to jack in the box next door ;)

Tasty breakfast! I ordered the corned beef hash breakfast burrito, which was a decent size. The potatoes were delicious. Prices are good and fair. I didn't have any pancakes, but I saw other people's orders and they looked really good. Staff was friendly. The place was incredibly crowded and seemed a little bit unorganized. There didn't seem to be enough tables during the busy time, and I think it would help if you requested that customers order first and then seat themselves. That way everyone would have a place to sit by the time their orders came out. It was annoying seeing people send their kids/spouses to stake out tables while they were at the very back of the line.

Best breakfast spot in south Orange County (where there aren't a ton of great places to eat out)! All of their menu items are good! Their breakfast burritos are nice and filling and have some really good ingredients. These are always a good choice. But this place is really known for their pancakes and french toast, which don't fail to impress! They have some great flavors, and coconut syrup that adds a really nice, but not too heavy, sweetness. You can also get Hawaiian lunch plates. I've gotten the Korean ribs plate and that was good too! Service is decent, and the place is a little small. Parking is never an issue (you park on top of it). Prices are pretty reasonable as well. Overall: I'm originally from the area, and this is my #1 breakfast/brunch restaurant!

This is a solid breakfast restaurant! I went here yesterday with a large group of my friends from church and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The seating was a big of a challenge since it was sunday morning and there were limited seats inside and outside but we managed to fit. I ordered from their "eggscellent combo" which included applewood bacon, eggs, and my choice of pancakes. OMG. Quite a substantial amount of food for such a cheap price. I believe it only cost about $7 with tax. I opted for the blueberry pancakes which came out well made and in large quantity. The pancake was huge, well made, and delicious. My bacon was as bacon should be...awesome, just plain awesome. My eggs were scrambled and pretty standard. Its hard to mess up on scrambled eggs. Many of my omelets turn into scrambled eggs. Theirs was fluffy and golden. The area is pretty nice too. Its right on PCH and makes me appreciate living in sunny southern California.

The food here is pretty darn good and healthy. Great service and the seating is a little bit tight. There are inside and outside seating. Anyways, back to the food! I have tried the strawberry pancake, omelette, and french toast. Super yummy and cooked very well. The omelette wasn't greasy at all compared to other places. The best omelette I have ever tried. Strawberry pancake was so good! Pancakes were not flat like at Original Pancake House. And strawberries on top were sweet and delicious. I'm not a french toast fan, but it was crispy on the edges and soft on the inside. Melts into your mouth literally. I'll be back, Stacks!

  • Lisa C.

The long line was a bit scary when we first saw it. Luckily it moved quickly and we were able to place our order in under 10 mins. There is no assign seating, first come first serve. Place your order and take your number with you. I order the belgian waffle with the strawberry and cream. It was not overly sweet. The cream was fluffy. The belgian waffle had more of a pastry texture to it. The size was very generous! I also tried my fiancé's loco moco. The saltiness of the sauce over white rice was perfect. Although if you just ate the spam by itself without the rice, it gets pretty salty, haha! Price was good. Food was great. Service was excellent. Definitely will be back!

Loved this place.. great breakfast spot with plenty of outdoor seating. Many different creative pancake options to choose from. They also have a variety of crepes, french toasts, omelettes, TOO many I wanted to try! Looking forward to going back so I can try them all!

I'm giving this place 3 stars on the breakfasts alone, as I haven't tried any of their lunch items. We usually come here once a month. The 3 breakfasts I typically get are the portuguese sausage/eggs/fried rice, loco moco and the Captain Crunch french toast (made with Hawaiian bread). The portuguese sausage is tasty and the cuts are thick and long. The fried rice is just average - I think it needs more shoyu. The loco moco is also average but the gravy is good. For some reason, the meat never tastes cooked all the way, like it's still pink in the middle. The Captain Crunch french toast is probably the most delicious, with the most calories! It's made with Hawaiian sweet bread and it almost tastes like dessert. I've posted photos of all 3 breakfasts on Yelp. The wait staff here all young and there have been a couple of times when they got my order wrong. This restaurant has limited seating inside, but you can eat outside in their front patio too. There is plenty of parking in the back of their restaurant (2nd level) or on the street. It's close enough to our house to get our Hawaiian breakfast fix once a month, but nothing out of this world.

Quite crowded, but that was a good indicator of what was to come, and by the time we had ordered a table had opened up. I had the macadamia nut pancakes, and loaded up on the coconut syrup. They also offer maple and boysenberry, which I tried, but coconut was by far the favorite... My wife had the California omelette, when in Rome..., it was also good, loaded with bacon and cheese, and topped with beautiful avocado. I recommend this joint, but stick to the short stack, it is more than most need!

  • David E.

Okay, due to the wife's busy work schedule we're finally getting a chance to come back here. Since it's been six months we're going with our cravings for what we ordered last time. Yes, not the most exciting of plans. The good news is that our opinions from last time were no fluke. This place is "too legit to quit". The SPICY CHICKEN & BACON WAFFLE is nearly as stunning visually as it is in the mouth. It consists of chicken katsu, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar jack cheese, spicy mayo topped with maple syrup and powdered sugar. I added a bit more maple syrup as I wanted more balance to the sweet/spicy/salty combos going on. This thing is truly delicious and one hell of a gut bomb. I will skip lunch, play golf and be just fine until dinner. The wife had the KALUA PORK BENEDICT and it was seriously visually appetizing as well. The tender and moist looking pork and the symmetry to the dish caught my eye. The wife tore it up. The COFFEE is quite good and smooth (not bitter). The staff are friendly and work the room well. I promise next time I will try something different such as: captain mac nut french toast, nutella smores french toast or the blueberry ricotta crepes if it is available. And we'll find a way to be back in less than six months.

Small place but great breakfast food here!! You order at the counter, take a # and sit down either inside or outside. Captain Crunch French Toast was on point! Portuguese Sausage and Over Medium Eggs on the side was fresh! Fitness Omelette with a side of bacon was yummy too! Thumbs up!!

I was recently in Dana Point for a wedding, and this place was on the top of my list of things to do while there! Boy was I excited when I realized it was a 2 minute walk from our hotel! We came here on a Saturday morning around 10am and there was a long line out the door. Its an order at the counter and sit down type of place. The line moves pretty quickly though and by the time you order there seemed to be tables available. It was easy to decide what I wanted: Captain Crunch Peanut Butter French toast--I had been drooling over this ever since I read the yelp reviews. Option to add banana for $1? YES please!!! This was probably one of the best French toasts I've ever had. Perfectly crispy with the captain crunch, and utterly delicious with the peanut butter and banana inside. (rivals the captain crunch French toast at Frank's Diner in Kenosha, WI, and this is only a car ride away!) The other people dining with me didn't seem as excited about their meals, but they got eggs and some other boring stuff-- if you come here the FRENCH TOAST is the way to go!!!!

  • Alina J.

This is definitely not the place to go if you're looking for a GOOD omelette. The pancakes were tasty. Prices are average. It is like a fast food breakfast place. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. It wasn't terrible, but not the quality I would want to spend money on when I go out to breakfast

    (3)
  • Kimber Y.

This was my first time here and I was WOWed! I had the garden crepes. They were delicious! My friends had: the breakfast melt, chocolate pancakes and eggs and the spicy chicken and bacon waffles. Everything was yummy! There was nothing left on anyone's plates The service was fast. When we got there there was a line out the door and our wait was surprisingly quick. Our food came out very fast and there were servers walking around doing refills and clearing plates. Everyone was super friendly and I honestly can't wait to come back and try new things!

    (5)
  • Lianne C.

The line's generally always long so if you're willing to wait, it's good food. I've been here a few times and have always been pretty satisfied with what we get. The portions are huge and I never finish what we order unless we share. The last time we went, though, there was a hair in one of our dishes and there were these black plastic pieces in my waffle (which I presume were from the waffle machine). They said it was burnt waffle pieces but I wouldn't have said something if it was just burnt. They were definitely pieces of plastic. The woman said they would replace the waffle machine and asked if we wanted a refund. But by that point I'd eaten most of the waffle so didn't think it right to ask for a refund.

One word: RIDICULOUS! Although they were very busy, we found a table right away and ordered. The waitresses brought over the food right away and were attentive throughout our stay. The Florentine scramble was very yummy and comes with perfect home fries and 2 pancakes. For $1 more you can add fruit, I opted for blue berries, so good! My husband ordered the spicy chicken and waffles. Again, fantastic! The chicken appeared and tasted like Chicken Katsu covered in spicy dynamite sauce ( yes, the kind you get on sushi!) Although this sounds a little odd it all makes sense on your pallet. We paid under $24 for all this glorious food. Will make the trip up again and definitely stop by to stack up. Just fabulous!

  • Bonnie L.

Dog friendly brunch place. I brought the whole family including my golden retriever. They have bowls for your pooch if you ask. We ordered the Captain Crunch french toast with banana, chicken fried steak combo, and katsu waffle. The latter 2 weren't anything spectacular, but the Captain Crunch french toast was definitely different. If I were to come back, I'd get that again because it's out of the norm. It's french toast with a gooey peanut butter middle and crunchy outside. The katsu waffle wasn't really katsu; it was just dry fried chicken on top of a waffle. If that's what you want, Roscoe's is better. Be sure to try the different syrups. They have regular maple syrup, coconut syrup, and boysenberry syrup. My sister came up with the great idea of mixing the syrups together. I found it most tasty to mix the coconut with some boysenberry for an extra kick.

Definitely our new breakfast place! Amazing Oreo waffle! Oreos inside and on top with extra whipped cream! Me and my wife were very pleased here even though I tried the captain crunch peanut butter French toast and it was a major let down to me. Not nearly enough peanut butter and a thin coat of captain crunch. And it was overall a really small meal for 7 bucks. Just two slices of bread. BUT they happily exchanged those for a pretty good waffle with blueberries on top. But I think we will definitely be just splitting the Oreo waffle from now on because it's just awesome. And the staff are pretty friendly

    (4)
  • Patrick L.

Simply the best french toast ever. Well, technically it's not french. Since it's made from hawaiian bread, macadamia nuts, and capn crunch. :) Yes, capn crunch. You heard me, er read me. The sweet crispiness of the cap'n really makes the dish. Pus great coffee. If you're not up for a sweeter breakfast the eggs benedict are a great runner-up.

    (5)
  • Neen M.

The service here is super prompt it's kinda unbelievable that your food is ready that quickly. I definitely prefer sitting on the outside patio versus inside. Inside just feels a bit stuffy. The banana macadamia nut pancakes were so fluffy they tasted like food cotton melting in your mouth. Add on the homemade coconut syrup and it's TO-DIE. The ONLY thing which would make them that much better would be more bananas and macadamia nuts. They are a little skimp with generosity of them.

My boyfriend and I were stuck on the 5 freeway so we exited and found this crowded breakfast place in Dana Point. The line at first seems overwhelming, but it ended up being about a 15min-20min wait to get to the cash register, not that bad considering how crazy this place is with people. We ordered the oreo pancakes, loco moco, and clubhouse benedict with a strawberry lemonade. I'm not a big fan of pancakes, but these are definitely my favorite pancakes. The oreos make it less plain and gives it a nice sweet crunch. Whip cream is put on top but I didn't think that was necessary. Just a little bit of syrup and that is a great breakfast (and sugar rush) in itself. I had a the clubhouse benedict and it was good. It is standard to your usual eggs benedict. I was hoping for the english muffin to be a little crispier and my potatoes were a little cold. My bf ordered the loco moco which ended up being too salty. It came with friend rice, portuguese sausage, and an over easy egg. The gravy made everything quite saltier and a little difficult to eat. I would recommend getting it with plain white rice. Oh, and did I mention the pancakes are gluten free? Yay for all of you healthy eaters out there!

NO-LINE weekdays! For my wife's Bday, after waiting for the obligatory late sleep-in as I (the hubby) get the kiddo off to school, we stumbled down to Stacks Dana Point for a mid-Jan, mid-morning, mid-week brunch. I've heard about it from friends and Yelp users offering favorable reviews, so we thought we'd give it a shot. So grateful for So Cal living, although this winter seems completely devoid of a decent chill; we sat outside - in shorts. Lovely. Sharing a patio with Chronic Tacos, Stacks doesn't need a liquor license, although their neighbor has a limited drink menu. So we grabbed a couple beers from Chronic. Yeah, it's 10.30 AM on a Thursday. Got a problem with that? My eyes are open. It's happy hour. But this ain't about no Chronic, this is all about Stacks! Apparently there's a hint of Island flair to the place, serving plate lunch style teriyaki and Kalbi, so naturally I would expect large portions. I'd say that the portions were right on target actually. Certainly enough, not obnoxiously so, but not even close to leaving you hungry. Prices are on par and perfectly reasonable considering the portions, the casual atmosphere, the location and the food being prepared fresh. Absolutely worth the price of admission. Mrs. HappyGoLucky chose the Kalua Pork Benedict. Holy crap! Excellent combo idea. I've never seen that dish before. It flat out rocked. I'm a fan of anything with a fried egg over it, so take pulled island pork over a muffin with egg and creamy Benedict sauce with potatoes...yeah. Crack on a plate. I'm sold. I tried (oddly enough for the very first time mind you being a Gringo Chicano born and raised here in OC) the Huevos Rancheros. 2 eggs & 2 corn tortillas smothered in a salsa rojo (ranchero), sliced avocado, beans and perfectly cooked, chunky home fried potatoes. I know this is a popular & typical SoCal dish, and I'm sure it measures up, but I can only say that it made me perfectly happy and it was delish! Now, the food is excellent, unique and served hot and fresh. Here's where they earn 5 stars for service as well. The Kalua eggs came first. After a few minutes our server came out with a free bowl of fruit as a Peace offering for the delay of my dish. Unbeknownst to me, the chef messed up, so they were preparing another fresh one for me. So we got cool fresh fruit to tide me over and since it's her Bday, my wife added it as a nice compliment to the richness that IS the Benedict. Funky & interesting location, yet easy to access with free parking above the center, clean digs and friendly greetings. Well done! Enjoy with friends and bring non-locals. I'll definitely be back. I bid you Peace.

Very Average breakfast for the area, still pretty good eggs Benedict, potatoes were just plain, no onions, peppers etc... i always see a long line out front so I thought let's give it a try, I really like the idea of ordering and paying for your meal up front, let's you just take your time

I just had the gluten free pecan pancakes and was blown away. In fact I question they were gluten free, I thought they would be inferior in some way to regular pancakes, but just the opposite. I think I like them more than the regular pancakes. Excellent service, nice people, I would go there again.

My favorite breakfast place! I've never gotten anything that wasn't delicious. The coconut syrup is AMAZE. The service happens to be very friendly, too.

Delicious brunch every time. I just wish the place was bigger to accommodate the rush better.

This place had a line. But they still manage to get your food out to you rather quickly. The servers also assign you your table so it's not a mad dash to the first available table. I ordered the loco moco and it was just that but sorta on the plain side. It wasn't loaded with gravy the way you get it on the Islands. The spam was nice and hearty. My hubby got the chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries... I tried it... It tasted like kids food! They have a coconut syrup!!! Why I didn't try it is beyond me!!! Maybe next time!

Great for reasonable breakfast and walking distance from the Laguna Cliffs Marriott. But just the pancakes and coffee. Otherwise, didn't like the chorizo and eggs. Couldn't get a second latte because the line is always to the door.

This place is awesome! The staff were quite nice and the cafe itself has a positive environment. PLUS, the food is DELICIOUS! I came here after a good surf sesh and the omelette and pancakes totally hit the spot. Try the coconut syrup if you get pancakes! Overall a great place!

If you're looking for that Pancake specialty breakfast joint, this is the place. Many items to choose from and a lot of choices for pancakes. I'm not a big fan of the Pancakes, but they have a notch in that market. Check them out.
